Doves Wings Happenings

We now have 3 Doves Wings open! In the last year we have grown, just like the wonderful babies who are living with us.

The vision for Doves Wings is to provide a caring environment for the children to grow. The orphanages these children come from have many, many children and often the staff are stretched to be able to care for them all and give them the time each individual child needs to thrive. But in Doves Wings we're keeping the family sizes smaller, say about 6 children per apartment, so the children have lots of time with their main care giver, or ayi.

When the children come to us they are often physically distressed. However through much closer care, more time for carers to make sure they are getting enough time to feed and so on, they begin to gain weight and become more settled. During the last few months we've seen children have operations for various complaints and the change in them is great. Some still have future operations to deal with but they are growing stronger by the day.

Some of our children are even enjoying weekly swims during summer in a local pool. This was a very new experience not only for the children but their ayi's.

Each Doves Wings home needs good staff, and they can be difficult to connect with. We also need financial support for equipment, food, medical expenses and so on. We're thankful for each supporter that has come alongside us in these projects. Of course an individual child sponsorship could never be enough to fund a home like Doves Wings so there are always opportunities for supporters and volunteers.
