Latest Doves Wings News

In our last newsletter we had only just opened Dove’s Wing and we had just received Jonathon, since then we have received 3 small very sick little babies. Avery has finally arrived; we have employed 6 local staff members and Lois from England has joined our leadership team managing the daily running of Doves Wings. Also Bethany from Australia is now at Doves Wings volunteering for a month which is great!

Here we have on the far left An Fei Ye, An Xiao Ya and An Yi, I have named them Hope, Faith and Jacob… they look well in the photo but then we undressed them to bath and check them. These babies had severe diarrhoea, Pneumonia, bad urine burns and serious pressure areas on their hips and backs. Each baby we received was less than 2 months old & we had to hospitalise them almost immediately. They spent the first month in and out of hospital as we battle to save them… sadly we lost one of them.

An Fei Ye ( Hope), on the left, spent 10 days on a breathing machine, Hope did not respond to any medication. The decision to take her of the breathing machine was painful however it is comforting to know that for her last 2-3 weeks on the earth she was loved and held in loving arms. We were all devastated to lose her.

Then Avery arrived. This is the very fist photo I took of Avery before her operation, she looks like she has the weight of the world on her shoulder. When she arrived after her heart operation she couldn’t even sit up alone or roll over.

So how are they now...

Well look at the difference a lot of loving and good nutrition makes in a child’s life in just a few short weeks.

Avery now, she can sit up now, and scoot around the floor, getting into everything.. she has a great sense of curiosity like all 12 month olds and loves trying to walk.

Jonathon, he is now learning to stand. Jonathon had severe developmental delay, but the carers are wonderful in teaching him everything that normally children discover and learn themselves.

And Xiao Ya (Faith) is now healthy, and has doubled her weight and is laughing gurgling and loves to play on the mat and talk to us.

An Yi (Jacob) so called because this little man fought hard for life. The state of his health really meant he should never have survived… but he did and look at him now, he, to, is gurgling, smiling, laughing and very interactive with us.

All of these children will be able to be adopted and go to their forever homes, our function is just to get them out of the orphanage, love them and prepare them. In the next month we will bring in another baby and once that baby is settled in one more. The vision is not for just one home but to have a number scattered through out this city with a different foreigner overseeing each one of them and all of us coming together each week to discuss and build loving environments for the children. It hasn’t been all fun though; there have been some very stressful and emotional times. We have 6 lovely local ladies working for us.

So that’s a bit of an update on how the children of Doves Wings are progressing. Thanks for your support and prayers. If you would like to sponsor one of our babies or staff please contact the ChinaHeart office or click on the donate link on this page.
